Our third session of the Forum on Best Practices in the Agri-Food Supply Chain organised in partnership with the European Commission (Directorate General for Agriculture and Rural Development) took place on 16 November. This seminar built on the Forum’s findings from previous years. Seminar agenda items reflected the Forum’s roots as one of the actions envisaged under the Farm to Fork Strategy aimed at: enhancing cooperation between primary producers, improving their position within the food supply chain and increasing market transparency.

This year’s Forum was held in Brussels and gathered 107 participants from 17 countries to discuss how the agri food chain coped with the unprecedented peak of food inflation since 2021 and how food inflation could interfere with the achievement of the green and digital transition of the food system. Delegates heard from the perspective of farmers, producer organisations, processors, retailers, consumers and researchers. They discussed recent market trends that have increased costs for agri-food businesses and raised agri-food prices for consumers. Particular attention was paid to identifying how different actors of food supply chain can take advantage of the green and digital transition to optimise agri-food competitiveness.

An interesting and well-received mix of Member State experiences and good practices from around the EU were presented during the Forum’s different sessions. These were coordinated to illustrate how market actors, policymakers and consumers have responded to increased costs and increased prices following food inflation. Causes, consequences and solutions were analysed and panel discussions developed the topics further.

Presentations and outcomes from the Forum are available on the Resources section of the event page of our website.
