Typical countryside in luxembourg with small villages, forests, meadows and winding roads.

Some years ago, American economist Jeremy Rifkin prepared an outlook for the whole of the Luxembourg economy. Based on a highly participatory process, the 2050 plan envisaged among other things that Luxembourg would have 100% organic farming by 2050, with fewer livestock, more orchards and increased vegetable production. The year 2050 plan is a useful vision to align different stakeholders and is mostly reflected in present policies.

This case study presents an overview of policies promoting organic agriculture in Luxembourg, which can inspire other EU countries. The document complements the information provided in the EU CAP Network Thematic Group (TG) on Strengthening the position of farmers in the Organic Food Supply Chain.

This non-exhaustive working document, which expresses the views of the TG members, aims to support policy-makers and all stakeholders involved in designing organic policies.
