Join our new Thematic Groups and share your EU expertise

June saw the completion of several Thematic Groups (TG) organised by the CAP Implementation Contact Point as well as preparations for the launch of new TGs that will help to build on the momentum achieved by the Network’s thematic activities so far.

Proposals for the new thematic work have emerged from feedback within the TGs as well as consultation on thematic priorities for Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) networking identified during the first meeting of the EU CAP Network’s Rural Assembly.

Our TG on CAP Strategic Plans: Towards Implementation concluded its second meeting with clear interest for further work on this topic, particularly in terms of supporting the pivotal roles provided by Monitoring Committees during the implementation of CAP Strategic Plans. A new TG will advance this work and EU experts are invited to express interest in joining a new TG focused on exchanging experiences in the establishment and operation of Monitoring Committees.

Another expression of interest has also been launched in July for a new TG supporting networking knowhow on opportunities for optimising the uptake and results from the new CAP’s Eco-schemes. Lessons learned from initial experiences with the design and implementation of Eco-schemes will be shared and analysed in this TG. Outcomes aim to help improve understanding of the important enabling factors for the success of Eco-scheme annual payments, including their potential to add value to longer-term funding that is available from rural development interventions targeting agri-environment and climate action.

A third new TG being organised by the CP will contribute to the European Year of Skills by exploring rural Europe’s current needs for skills support. Sustainable agriculture will form a central component of this new TG’s remit and expressions of interest are now open for relevant experts.
