Enhancing food security under changing weather patterns: farm adaptation

Innovative solutions and knowledge are needed to strengthen farm resilience when facing up to climate change, thus contributing to food security. This is a key topic for the 'Support Facility for Innovation and Knowledge exchange | EIP-AGRI’.

On 14-15 March 2023, 80 participants from across Europe met at the EU CAP Network workshop in Bologna, Italy, to discuss how to enhance food security under changing weather patterns. The workshop focused on exchanging knowledge and sharing innovative, inspirational practices and approaches that support farmers in adapting to changing weather patterns.

The Dutch HW2O Operational Group was set up to test and optimise a sub-soil system to control soil moisture levels from underground. Hoeksche Waard, an island in the south of the Netherlands, lies below sea level. Controlling water on agricultural fields in this area is a major issue, especially in the case of heavy rainfall.
