This report provides an overview of the current state of agroforestry in six EU Member States (Belgium-Flanders, Czechia, France, Greece, Italy, and Spain). It provides an overview of the current experience related to the maintenance, restoration, or establishment of agroforestry systems in the selected Member States, and presents an overview of the successful approaches to agroforestry and barriers hindering its further restoration or establishment, as well as the tools used under the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) Strategic Plans (CSP) to support agroforestry. The analysis complements earlier analytical work performed by the EU CAP Network on supporting the establishment of agroforestry systems.

The work focuses on agroforestry and its contribution to sustainability, with a particular emphasis on its role in supporting climate change adaptation and mitigation, as well as enhancing biodiversity. This report primarily aims to improve awareness and understanding of the benefits of agroforestry and its importance for climate neutrality and resilience, as well as analysing biodiversity in the EU Member States.

The report notes, among other points, that there is a wide range of possible measures to support agroforestry systems, and that many Member States would benefit from advisory systems and capacity building to be able to use the full range of options available. The text also highlights the importance of transnational projects and initiatives in creating and disseminating knowledge and innovative practices across Member States.
