New Thematic work by the CAP Implementation Contact Point

Planning for the new phase of thematic work by our CAP Implementation Contact Point is progressing well. Expressions of interest are still open for two of the three new Thematic Groups.

The Contact Point’s thematic work forms a large part of its annual activities, which are designed to contribute to the CAP’s core General Objectives (GOs). This will include drawing on analytical screening work covering the approved CAP Strategic Plans (CSPs) with an emphasis on thematic priorities identified by our CSP subgroup.

For GO1, thematic work will contribute to fostering a smart, competitive, resilient and diversified agricultural sector ensuring long-term food security. Here, the Contact Point has recently completed the Expression of Interest stage inviting EU expertise to help form a Thematic Group (TG) looking at the role of Monitoring Committees. TG members will meet first in September to start sharing experience on the design and operation of Monitoring Committees as part of the wider governance of CSP Implementation at national and sub-national levels.

The CAP’s GO2 is the focus of another new TG which will work to help support and strengthen environmental protection, including biodiversity, and climate action through peer exchanges on the Eco-schemes in the CSPs. This TG will enable exchanges on different scheme types, such as those based on a single all-encompassing eco-scheme as well as other Member State approaches packaging together up to 15 different sub funding categories. Expressions of interest remain open for this TG until 9 September.

Contact Point work in support of the CAP’s GO3 ambitions to strengthen the socio-economic fabric of rural areas will be directed through a new TG on Rural Skills. This aims to explore how CSPs can help develop core skills within rural areas that are necessary to strengthen the position of farmers within the agri-food supply chain and create value. Topics covered are expected to include cooperation skills and building capacity for agri-food stakeholders to support societal demands for sustainable, high-quality food. Expressions of interest are open for this TG until 4 September.

You can still express your interest for two of these important TGs through our website's TG pages hyperlinked above.
