Join our next Thematic Groups on generational renewal in farming and biodiversity
Two new Thematic Groups will kick off in September and examine generational renewal and enhancing biodiversity in farmland. Here’s what you can expect and how you can contribute.
Thematic Groups (TGs) are a key activity of the EU CAP Network – CAP Implementation Contact Point. They focus on the implementation of the CAP and are complemented by the work of the Focus Groups on Innovation, knowledge exchange and EIP-AGRI and the Thematic Working Groups on Monitoring and Evaluating the CAP.
Each year, the EU CAP Network organises five TGs in line with the topics of its Annual Work Programme. For each TG, 40 members are selected through a public expression of interest. Together, the group fine-tunes topics and leads the TG work, engages in online and in-person meetings and other networking and knowledge-sharing activities, and contributes to final outputs.
Two new TGs will begin after the summer of 2024 and examine Gen Z: leading generational renewal in farming and enhancing biodiversity on farmland for improved resilience.
Expressions of interest are now open for both TGs and all CAP stakeholders are warmly invited to apply!
Thematic Group on Gen Z: Leading generational renewal in farming
Thematic Group on Enhancing Biodiversity on Farmland for Improved Resilience
The new TGs will explore two important topics related to the CAP General Objectives (GO) 'Supporting and strengthening environmental protection, including biodiversity, and climate action' (GO 2) and 'Strengthening the socio-economic fabric of rural areas' (GO 3).
The TG on Gen Z: leading generational renewal in farming will assess the necessary changes in both policy and practice to foster greater engagement of young people in agriculture and discuss their role in shaping rural areas. It will build on the experience and knowledge gathered by previous TGs, particularly those on Rural Youth Employment and Nurturing Skills for a Thriving and Sustainable Agricultural Sector.
The TG on enhancing biodiversity on farmland for improved resilience will examine the required changes in the design, implementation and uptake of actions to scale up biodiversity outcomes on the ground and improve farming's sustainability and resilience. Its activities relate to the recent TGs on Green Architecture: Designing Green Strategies and the Design and Implementation of Eco-schemes in the new CAP Strategic Plans.
Why join a Thematic Group?
If you are selected to be a member of a TG, you will become part of a small but dedicated cross-section of informed and engaged CAP stakeholders from different parts of Europe who actively participate in TG activities over three to four months. You will have the opportunity to share your knowledge and experience, learn from others, expand your professional network and contribute to the elaboration of useful documents, such as good practice examples, factsheets and policy recommendations.
Join the conversation anyway
Even if you are not able to join a TG as a member, our team is always eager to hear from you! You can contact us via the email address indicated in each TG landing page to suggest examples of relevant initiatives (particularly if funded via the CAP) and share information about your work (publications, research etc.).
You can also stay up to date through our monthly newsletter and through our social media channels, using the hashtags #BiodiversityForResilience and #GenerationalRenewal.
