Farming in focus at the National CAP Networks' meeting

2nd NN meeting

National CAP Networks (NNs) all around rural Europe are busy rolling out their new support roles for the CAP Strategic Plans (CSPs), and this includes regular multi-lateral networking between the EU countries on topics spanning the full range of CSP funding.

Our most recent NN meeting in Poland gathered participants from 25 Member States and focused on topics indicated as priorities by the NNs, including the importance of integrated support for the full range of CSP stakeholders. Other agenda topics covered NN Clusters as well as the NNs’ pivotal roles with the Agricultural and Rural Inspiration Awards.

The support for the agri-food sector was a major topic of discussion during the NN exchanges. In a specific session, the NNs considered their mandate for supporting the full CAP. Previously, rural networking had focused on the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development (EAFRD). During their meeting in Poland, the NNs discussed networking opportunities for all stakeholders interested in both the EAFRD and EAGF.

A panel of agri-food experts helped raise awareness among the NNs about the context for EAGF networking possibilities. It also highlighted various options for NNs to share their knowledge and good practices in EAGF-related areas such as food and drink, eco-schemes, and generational renewal. Additionally, peer learning between NNs on communication for EAGF stakeholders was also considered particularly useful.

During field visits to farms, the NNs were able to gain insights into their target audiences from the agri-food sector. The Polish NN created a series of informative factsheets about each of the farms. These communication tools are now available. The next NN meeting is scheduled to take place in spring 2024. Prior to that, a number of NNs, such as France and Austria, have plans to organize national events to mark transition from national rural network to national CAP network
