LEADER helps renovate a botanical park in Cyprus with new facilities

    Summary

    Cyherbia Botanical Park is one of the largest thematic parks in Cyprus. It includes nine organic herb gardens, a woodland shaped like the outline of Cyprus and the Lavender Meditation Labyrinth. Visitors can take a stroll while learning about Cypriot herbs and engage in educational activities designed for families.

    The park also features a distillation room, where essential oils are extracted, and a shop. In order to improve the overall visitor experience, the owners used LEADER support provided by the Larnaca and Famagusta District Development Agency to renovate the park, adding a new kitchen, storage room, natural product store and new facilities for the staff.

    Results

    • LEADER funding helped to improve the quality of the services offered to visitors.
    • The investment helped to secure the jobs of the park’s 13 employees.

    Context

    Cyherbia Botanical Park is probably one of the biggest theme parks in Cyprus. Visitors can take a leisurely stroll while learning about Cypriot herbs and engage in educational activities, including game sheets provided for children. The park features a distillation room, where essential oils are extracted, and nine themed organic herb gardens, the only maze in Cyprus, a woodland shaped like the outline of Cyprus and the Lavender Meditation Labyrinth.

    Cyherbia Botanical Park offers its visitors a space of natural beauty and immersive experiences and is committed to minimising its ecological footprint and inspiring environmental awareness.

    The Cyherbia Botanical Park used LEADER funds to improve its visitor experience and support its commitment to sustainability and environmental awareness.

    Activities

    LEADER funding was used to modernise and enhance the park’s facilities, including creating a new kitchen, storage room, natural product store and new facilities for the staff.

    Main results

    • The investment has improved the quality of the services offered to the park’s visitors, including the thousands of school students who visit every year and share their experiences with their families.
    • The modernisation of the park’s facilities has improved the attractiveness of the business and thus helped to secure the jobs of its 13 employees, 11 of whom are women.

    Key lessons

    • LEADER support played an important role in maintaining the park’s viability, sustaining employment in the region and providing environmental education to students, tourists and families.
