The workshop brings together different agricultural stakeholders to discuss the preliminary findings and the future of Augures! - a project using integrated modelling to assess climate impacts.

Augures Athens workshop event poster

Understanding the impact of climate change on the EU’s key crops is fundamental to create targeted, evidence-based and inclusive agricultural policies. However, research is often decoupled from these policy needs, and decision-makers may not know the scale of upcoming crop losses and socio-economic impacts. This makes it challenging to prepare effective policies that enhance resilience and climate ambition. Ambitious policy implementation is also made more difficult by research and policy priorities that diverge from the needs of farming communities.

Augures! aims to bridge this gap by providing decision-makers with actionable findings on climate impacts. Augures! is committed to ensuring that its findings meet decision-makers’ needs and reflect the priorities of farming communities. This workshop will provide an opportunity for key stakeholders to share their feedback on the research and ensure that future findings meet specific stakeholder needs.

The workshop will be led by Augures! project partners (AgiMP, National Observatory of Athens, Climate Strategies, FACETS, and METEOME). It will cover the following key topics:

  • Assessing climate impacts on the agriculture sector and the food system: presentation of the Augures! multidisciplinary approach and its long-term vision.
  • Modelling for decision-support and impact: the capabilities of the climate, crop and economic integrated modelling approach, and preliminary results in the Southeastern European context.
  • Bridging science, policy and practice: identifying the priorities, challenges and opportunities to support resilient agriculture and food security.
