Assessing biodiversity shifts with bird populations on agricultural land in Lithuania

Contracted by the Lithuanian Ministry of Agriculture, the Lithuanian Ornithological Society (LOD) undertook a study assessing changes in bird populations on agricultural lands between 2020 and 2022, with a focus on 14 specific rural bird species.

  • 2014-2022
  • Environmental impacts

Using a methodology consistent with previous studies, LOD calculated the Farmland Bird Index (FBI), examining its trends over three periods: 2000-2022, 2014-2022, and 2020-2022. The study aimed to determine the impact of the Lithuanian Rural Development Programme 2014-2022 on these bird populations to inform future policy making. Despite COVID-19 & obstacles for field data collection, the final report fully met the requirements and provided invaluable data for the ongoing monitoring and assessment of biodiversity.
