Objectives

Reducing pesticide use and chemical control in general and their well-described negative impacts on the environment and human health is at the very base of this proposal. The general objective of VIROPLANT is to study and propose integrated biocontrol strategies, which are, beside host resistance, the most accepted alternative to the use of pesticide. VIROPLANT will provide new tools to be used in integrated disease and integrated pest management (IDM and IPM) for conventional, integrated and organic farming. These tools and strategies are based on the use of natural microorganisms (in particular Viruses) and are compatible with traditional biocontrol approaches.

Objectives

Alla base di questo progetto di ricerca c'è l'obbiettivo di ridurre l'uso dei pesticidi in agricoltura, e della riduzione del loro impatto negativo sull'ambiente e della salute umana. A tal fine VIROPLANT propone nuove strategie di controllo biologico integrato che, assieme alla resistenza genetica alle malattie, è l'approccio piu' sicuro per limitare l'impatto delle malattie delle piante e il danno apportato dagli insetti. A tal fine VIROPLANT si concentrerà sulla scoperta e l'utilizzo di nuovi virus da usare per il controllo integrato di malattie (causate da batteri e funghi) e di insetti, in particolare insetti vettori di firoplasmi e virus.
