Objectives

The aim of the project is to convert a conventionally managed high-performance herd of the Holstein Frisian breed with a milk yield of 11,000 kg per cow per year to organic farming and to ensure an energy and protein supply for the cattle at the site for an annual yield of at least 9,000 kg through the farm's own basic and concentrated feed production according to organic farming principles.

Activities

Conversion measures for animal welfare in accordance with the requirements of organic milk production in the Type MPA 1930 dairy cattle facility for keeping 650 cows including offspring are to be taken into account. Clinical and laboratory diagnostic parameters and the use of an innovative assistance system for intensive animal health monitoring are to be tested. In addition, 500 hectares of irrigation area are to be integrated into feed production without polluting the groundwater body with nutrients.
