Food Systems in European Cities

Objectives

In collaboration with the University of Bologna, FoodE brings together a consortium of 24 organisations. The project aims to accelerate the development of sustainable and resilient City/Region Food Systems (CRFS) by bringing together citizen-led local food initiatives across Europe. Global challenges that threaten food security are considered through a “Think Global, Eat Local” perspective. The themes on the agenda include 1) improving food production, 2) reducing food waste, and 3) creating sustainable cities.

Activities

The objective is to accelerate the growth of citizen-led City/Region food systems (CRFS) by bringing local initiatives across Europe together and co-develop and disseminate a range of tools to ensure up-to-date cross-sectorial knowledge. FoodE: 1) defines an operational methodology for the assessment of CRFS, 2) promotes cross-polination between EU CRFS, 3) contributes to increase access to afforable, safe and nutritious food, 4) creates a tool mobilising CRFS stakeholders in sustainability assessment, 5) upscales the output to other EU cities.
