Chain support of hemp cultivation for textile applications

Objectives
Farmers currently still have limited knowledge about variety choice, fertilization, sowing density, sowing methods and roting. Farmers who want to start growing hemp are held back by the aforementioned bottlenecks, as a result of which, until now, hemp has hardly been grown in Flanders. This operational group has to make sure that the cultivation is more widely spread in Flanders. We want to realize this by supporting farmers with advice during cultivation, harvesting and roting in order to achieve an optimal result.
Objectives
Weinig landbouwers hebben al ervaring met de teelt van hennep. Ze hebben momenteel nog een beperkte kennis over de rassenkeuze, bemesting, zaaidichtheid, zaaimodaliteiten en roting. In Vlaanderen zijn er momenteel slechts een handvol oogstmachines ontwikkeld en operationeel die hennep parallel kunnen oogsten (zoals bij vlas), wat maakt dat de logistiek rond het oogsten de nodige organisatie en coördinatie vereist.. Deze operationele groep moet ervoor zorgen dat de teelt meer ingang vindt in Vlaanderen. Dit willen we realiseren door landbouwers te ondersteunen met advies tijdens de teelt, oogst en roting om zo een optimaal resultaat te realiseren.
Activities
A first part comprises advice on cultivation technical aspects . A second part includes all aspects of harvesting : coordination of harvesting, turning and baling of hemp straw. The third objective is matchmaking between growers and processors. Farmers who do not yet have much experience with hemp cultivation do not have sufficient insight into the marketing opportunities within which agreements are made with contractors and processors for the area grown at the beginning of the growing season. We help ensure the marketing of the hemp fiber grown. We establish contacts between farmers and buyers of the fiber and strengthen them where necessary. The last objective is to map the economic feasibility.
Activities
Een eerste deel omvat adviesverlening omtrent teelttechnische aspecten. Een tweede deel omvat alle aspecten van het oogsten : de coördinatie van het oogsten, het keren en het persen van hennepstro. De derde doelstelling is matchmaking tussen telers en verwerkers. Landbouwers die nog niet veel ervaring hebben met de hennepteelt hebben onvoldoende zicht op de afzetmogelijkheden. We leggen de contacten tussen producenten (landbouwers) en afnemers van de vezels en versterken deze waar nodig. De laatste doelstelling is het kaart brengen van de economische haalbaarheid.
