A written text on a green wall saying: Have your say!

For many years, the European Commission has been implementing measures and providing funding to support generational renewal in agriculture and to facilitate young and new farmers’ access to farming and businesses in rural areas as part of the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP). Ensuring the continuity of farming and attracting new generations into the sector is crucial for maintaining the vitality of rural areas and securing the stability of Europe’s food production. In addition to CAP-funded instruments, most Member States also implement national/regional policies tailored to address their specific challenges and needs.

A study on the ‘Assessment of generational renewal strategies across EU Member States’ has recently been assigned by the Directorate-General for Agriculture and Rural Development (DG AGRI) to the “European Evaluation Helpdesk for the CAP” of the EU CAP Network.

One of the main objectives of this study is to identify the main challenges for young and new farmers entering or intending to enter agriculture. The study also aims to assess the effectiveness of the policy instruments available in the EU to support generational renewal.

As part of the study, an online survey is currently ongoing.

As a young farmer or an aspiring new farmer, you are invited to participate in the survey to provide your valuable insights and opinions on the real challenges of accessing the farming sector. By answering the questionnaire, you will offer a very valuable contribution to the results of the study, which aims to provide elements for the Commission’s considerations on the future of the EU agricultural policy.

Your participation will help ensure that policies are better aligned with the needs and realities of young farmers. The survey is available in all official languages of the EU.
