EU CAP Network workshop ‘Animal Welfare and Innovation’: Report and factsheet
Addressing the animal welfare challenges affecting European livestock production.
The aim of the EU CAP Network workshop entitled ‘Animal Welfare and Innovation’, organised by the Directorate-General for Agriculture and Rural Development of the European Commission (DG AGRI) together with the Support Facility for Innovation and Knowledge exchange (EIP-AGRI SF), was to address the animal welfare challenges affecting European livestock production. It facilitated knowledge exchange, sharing of innovative practices, and identification of innovation needs regarding cage-free production systems, animal welfare indicators, monitoring methods and welfare labelling and certification. A report and a factsheet, as well as presentations and other materials are now available.
Three field visits were organised to see practical examples of innovative practices to improve the welfare of cattle, pigs and laying hens. More details about each of the sites can be found in the field visits information document.
