Physical & demographic characteristics of LAG area

The territory selected by the Kaišiadorys District LAG for the implementation of the LEADER method corresponds to the territory of the Kaišiadorys District Municipality Administration, except for the district center - the city of Kaišiadorys. Kaišiadorys district municipality is located almost in the very center of Lithuania: 60 km from Vilnius and 40 km from Kaunas. The major cities are connected by the international road and railway highway Vilnius - Klaipėda, which passes through Kaišiadorys district. According to the 2021 Lithuanian Population and Housing Census, there were 21,455 residents in the Kaišiadorys district LAG territory, of whom 47.5 percent were women and 52.5 percent were men. 

Assets & land use of the LAG area

Kaišiadorys district occupies an excellent geographical position - it is located not only between the largest Lithuanian rivers - Nemunas and Neris, but also between the largest Lithuanian cities - the capital Vilnius and the "temporary capital" Kaunas. Both cities are connected by the country's most important automobile and railway highways passing through Kaišiadorys district. By train from Kaišiadorys to Vilnius - 67 km, to Kaunas - 37 km, by car - 73 and 47 km, respectively, from Žiežmariai by driving along the Vilnius-Kaunas-Klaipėda highway. The Kaišiadorys district has protected natural habitats and reserves of European importance, and is rich in rare plants and animals listed in the Red Book of Lithuania. There are many natural landscapes and cultural heritage objects that are interesting for tourists.
