National Network

Austrian National Network

The Austrian CAP Network supports the implementation of the CAP Strategic Plan in the period from 2023 to 2027. The highly dynamic times call for systemic and multidisciplinary dialogue, cooperation and innovation to address future-relevant issues of agriculture, forestry and rural areas.

The National Network support unit empowers and connects people and organisations across existing disciplinary and system boundaries so that they become active shapers of rural areas and actively steer the transformation process.

Objectives

  • Strengthening the participation of stakeholders and interest groups in the implementation and development of the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) and rural areas
  • Improving the quality of the implementation of the Austrian CAP Strategic Plan 2023-2027
  • Informing the general public and potential beneficiaries about the objectives and achievements of the CAP
  • Promoting innovation and knowledge transfer in both pillars of the CAP

Membership

Who can join?

There is no formal membership in the Austrian CAP network. Everybody who is interested in the CAP and rural development is invited to participate and take advantage of the different CAP network formats.

How to get involved?

Simply by attending events and workshops, having your say in discussion fora and in participation processes, making use of information offers, etc. The Austrian CAP network support unit is constantly improving the formats and, each year, a stakeholder survey is conducted where everybody is invited to comment on the existing networking opportunities and make suggestions for additional initiatives.

Regional representation

The Austrian CAP Network is a multiplier network. By communicating directly with network nodes throughout Austria, information outreach is granted even without geographic branches.

Governance

The Austrian CAP Network support unit is outsourced and contracted by the Austrian Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, regions and water management. Four organisations run the network support unit: the Austrian Chamber of Agriculture, the Umweltdachverband (umbrella organisation for environmental NGOs), ÖAR ltd (regional and rural development consultants) and Winnovation ltd (innovation consultants). Annual working programmes are developed and negotiated with four thematic support groups (each consisting of approximately 20 stakeholders) as well as the Ministry.
