In line with the European Years of Skills and the Long-Term Vision for Rural Areas, the TRANSFARM Final Dissemination Conference presents an excellent opportunity to explore the fusion of tradition, innovation, and digital empowerment in rural sustainability. As rural depopulation looms as a pressing challenge, initiatives like TRANSFARM exemplify how traditional farming practices can be revitalised and modernised, aligning with the principles outlined in the EU Rural Action Plan.

By delving into the transformative potential of digital tools in preserving rural heritage, enhancing agricultural practices, and fostering entrepreneurship, the conference underscores the importance of training in advancing rural development. Through practical insights and case studies, participants will explore how digitalization not only modernises traditional practices, but also opens avenues for economic diversification.

At its core, the conference seeks to bridge the gap between tradition and innovation, recognizing the rich tapestry of agricultural heritage, while embracing the transformative power of digital technology. By equipping rural residents with the necessary digital tools, projects like TRANSFARM and other training pathways not only enhance the professionalisation of the agricultural sector, but also pave the way for diversified income streams for farmers. Through recommendations emerging from this event, the EU can strengthen its commitment to rural development, ensuring a more sustainable and vibrant future for rural communities across Europe.

The conference will also serve as a keynote event for the TRANSFARM project. TRANSFARM is an Erasmus+ project aiming at promoting the sustainable and traditional farming practice of transhumance by providing rural entrepreneurs and farmers with a free training learning platform. The project strives to foster the practice of transhumance across Europe as a solution to some of the challenges related to the use of land and rural communities, such as rural depopulation, the carbon footprint caused by the agricultural sector, and access to locally-produced food. The project was selected by the EU CAP Network as good practice in nurturing agricultural skills.
