Workshop in the framework of the CIHEAM Zaragoza OLIB project Strengthening Sustainable Local Development and Coexistence in Lebanon through the Improvement of Olive Tree Yield and Productivity.
To mark the 25th anniversary of the adoption of the Declaration and Programme of Action on a Culture of Peace by the General Assembly of the United Nations, CIHEAM Zaragoza is organising a workshop to celebrate the International Day of Peace, held every year on 21 September, linking it to the OLIB project ‘Strengthening Sustainable Local Development and Coexistence in Lebanon through the Improvement of Olive Tree Yield and Productivity’. This project is coordinated by CIHEAM Zaragoza, with the collaboration of the University of Zaragoza and funded by Zaragoza Provincial Council. It aims to improve olive oil production in a vulnerable area of Lebanon.
The General Assembly of the United Nations designated this Day to promote peace as a participatory process in which cooperation and dialogue contribute to a mutual understanding towards social, economic and environmental development. This year, the theme of the International Day of Peace is Cultivating a Culture of Peace.
The workshop is divided into two parts. The first part will be held at the CIHEAM Institute located on the Aula Dei Campus (Zaragoza), and its main objective will be to analyse the role of cooperation to ensure that olive oil production contributes to sustainable development, including management and production techniques. The contents of this part will be used to prepare a report to support the activities of the OLIB project.
The second part of the workshop will focus on the celebration of the International Day of Peace, and will take place at the headquarters of the Diputación Provincial de Zaragoza. CIHEAM Zaragoza will organise a round table with social and institutional stakeholders to reflect on agrifood cooperation activities that promote a culture of peace. In addition, during the afternoon session, attendees will be able to taste extra virgin olive oil (EVOO), and at the closing session, they will receive an olive plant. Registration for this event is open until 15 September.
