The European Commission services (DG AGRI, DG REGIO, DG CONNECT), in close collaboration with the European Broadband Competence Network Support Facility and the CoR Broadband Platform, will host a workshop focused on ‘smart and sustainable growth for regions’.
The overall aim of the workshop is to reflect on the future direction of EU Cohesion Policy and how investment in digital infrastructure can support smart and sustainable regions. The event will open with introductory remarks by ERRIN.
On the theme of ‘smart and sustainable growth for regions’, the workshop will address the rural digital divide, examining its repercussions on social cohesion and overall growth in the European Union. The intention is to discuss the future direction of EU Cohesion Policy, as well as focusing on how to leverage investment in digital infrastructure for resilient and sustainable regions. It will take stock of the progress so far, and highlight exemplary practices at local and regional level from LORDIMAS.
The European Regions Research and Innovation Network (ERRIN) will open the discussion with insights from the regional and local stakeholders’ perspective on how digital infrastructure could bolster innovation ecosystems and enhance their smart potential.
