Analysis of organic farming relating to Rioja's RDP
Vineyards in La Rioja, Spain

The study collected data from previous evaluations from the Rioja region and national level, which offered insights into the number of producers and hectares under organic cultivation. Specifically, the region’s Register of Agricultural Holdings (REA) supplied farm-level data from 2016 to 2020 on organic producers and the spatial distribution of organic crops. The monitoring data of the Rural Development Programme (RDP) made it easier to identify correlations and to identify organic producers who applied for the programme's aid.

The study showed that data from the REA differentiated between changes in organic crop areas, those rewarded with RDP assistance, areas under non-supported holdings and areas of holdings not seeking organic support. While the RDP data quantified supported agricultural areas, parcel-level identification remained a limitation, complicating the assessment of specific supported crops on mixed holdings.
