Objectives
The project aims to optimise the nutritional situation for suckling pigs. In addition to an extended data acquisition regarding performance parameters of sows and piglets, the teats of lactating sows are photographed with a thermal imaging camera. These data are analysed and compared with the performance data. All data will be integrated into the sow planner and the selection criteria "milk yield and longevity" will be developed as a decision aid for the livestock farmer.

Das Projekt optimiert die Ernährungssituation für Saugferkel. Zusätzlich zu einer erweiterten Datenerfassung hinsichtlich Leistungsparameter von Sauen und Ferkeln, werden die Gesäuge von laktierenden Sauen mit einer Wärmebildkamera fotografiert, diese Daten analysiert und mit den Leistungsdaten abgeglichen. Alle Daten sollen in den Sauenplaner einfließen und damit das Selektionskriterium „Milchleistung und Langlebigkeit“ als Entscheidungshilfe für den Tierhalter entwickelt werden.

1 Practice Abstracts
The Select4Milk project successfully collected thermographic images of the udder ridge, health data from clinical examination, and performance and production parameters in sow herds. Overall, it was shown that thermography of the teat line at the time of birth contains information that can help to identify sick animals whose illness has a negative impact on their piglets.
The Milk Score (MS) was developed as a novel score to evaluate the rearing performance of lactating sows. For this purpose, a linear regression model was developed to increase the practicality of the MS for use in practical farming. In the long term, the use of the Milk Score can increase the longevity of the sows and the litter quality of the herd. The Milk Score as well as the other animal health traits newly included in the project can be used by farmers in the db Planner. Overall, it provides an animal welfare-based performance score that farmers can use to support their selection decisions.
Im Projekt Select4Milk wurden erfolgreich Thermografieaufnahmen der Gesäugeleiste, Gesundheitsdaten aus klinischer Untersuchung sowie Leistungs- und Produktionsparameter in Sauenbeständen erfasst. Insgesamt zeigte sich, dass die Thermografie der Gesäugeleiste zum Zeitpunkt der Geburt Informationen enthält, die helfen können, kranke Tiere zu identifizieren, deren Krankheit negative Auswirkungen auf ihre Ferkel hat.
Als neuartiger Score zur Bewertung der Aufzuchtleistung von laktierenden Sauen wurde der Milk Score (MS) entwickelt. Dazu wurde ein lineares Regressionsmodell entwickelt, um die Praktikabilität des MS für den Einsatz in der praktischen Landwirtschaft zu erhöhen. Langfristig kann die Anwendung des Milk Score die Langlebigkeit der Sauen und die Wurfqualität der Herde erhöhen. Der Milkscore sowie die weiteren im Projekt neu einbezogenen Merkmale zur Tiergesundheit können von den Landwirten im db Planer genutzt werden. Insgesamt bietet er eine tierwohlorientierte Leistungsbewertung, die Landwirte zur Unterstützung ihrer Selektionsentscheidungen nutzen können.
