Context
The innovative pilot project Foodwaste for Foodpack aims to recover waste from the fruit and vegetable processing industry as a resource for obtaining fibre-based packaging materials for the agrifood industry.
This industrial symbiosis aims to contribute to the use of waste from fruit and vegetable processing companies, turning it into a local resource for the packaging sector that offers an alternative to virgin raw materials such as plastic and cellulose.
Objectives
- Recover food waste from food processing (food waste from production processes).
- Reduce the use of virgin raw materials, mainly plastic, as packaging material.
- Design to ensure the final recovery of the packaging.

- Valorización de residuos alimenticios procedentes de los procesos de transformación de alimentos (desperdicio alimentario derivado de los procesos productivos).
- Reducción del uso de materias primas vírgenes, principalmente de plástico, como material de envasado.
- Diseño que asegure la valorización final del envase.

- Activity 1. Sorting waste from fruit and vegetables.
- Activity 2. Pre-treatment of fruit and vegetable waste to obtain fibre-based materials.
- Activity 3. Obtaining fibre-based materials from fruit and vegetable juice residues.
- Activity 4. Applications of waste fibre-based materials as packaging for the agrifood sector.
- Activity 5. Dissemination of results and transfer to the sector.

-Actividad 1. Selección de los residuos procedentes de frutas y hortalizas.
-Actividad 2. Pre-tratamiento de los residuos procedentes de frutas y hortalizas para la obtención de materiales a base de fibra.
-Actividad 3. Obtención de materiales a base de fibra procedentes de residuos de zumos de frutas y hortalizas
-Actividad 4. Aplicaciones de los materiales a base de fibra procedente de residuos como envases para el sector agroalimentario.
-Actividad 5. Divulgación de los resultados y transferencia al sector.
