1 Practice Abstracts

Ornamental horticulture faces a major challenge, namely sustainable cultivation with significantly less chemical plant protection products and possible emissions to natural resources and reduced energy consumption. The basis for this is robust breeds that are not susceptible to diseases and pests. By using innovative methods to reliably understand the differences in disease and pest susceptibility between cultivars, an overview is created and the grower can select a cultivar and effectively steer towards sustainable cultivation.

De sierteelt staat voor een grote uitdaging, namelijk een duurzame teelt met aanzienlijk minder chemische gewasbeschermingsmiddelen en een eventuele emissie naar natuurlijke hulpbronnen en minder energieverbruik. De basis hiervoor zijn robuuste rassen die niet vatbaar zijn voor ziekten en plagen. Door met innovatieve methoden de verschillen in mate van ziekte-, en plaag gevoeligheid tussen cultivars op een betrouwbare manier inzichtelijk te maken, ontstaat er een overzicht en kan de teler een cultivar selecteren en effectief sturen op een duurzame teelt.
