1 Practice Abstracts

The COVERCROPS project addresses the loss of biodiversity and soil degradation in fruit farms. It offers farmers the opportunity to reduce their dependence on inputs such as phytosanitary products and fertilizers, while diversifying their products by growing aromatic plants. The solution proposed by the project is based on the design and implementation of herbaceous and aromatic covers. These covers are designed to improve soil quality, attract auxiliary fauna that helps in pest control and generate alternative production by using aromatic plants.


El proyecto COVERCROPS aborda la pérdida de biodiversidad y la degradación del suelo en las explotaciones frutícolas. Ofrece a los agricultores la oportunidad de disminuir su dependencia de insumos como fitosanitarios y fertilizantes, y a la vez diversificar sus productos mediante el cultivo de aromáticas. La solución que propone el proyecto se basa en el diseño e implementación de cubiertas herbáceas y aromáticas. Estas cubiertas están diseñadas para mejorar la calidad del suelo, atraer fauna auxiliar que ayude en el control de plagas y generar una producción alternativa mediante el aprovechamiento de las plantas aromáticas.
