The second meeting of the Thematic Group on Landscape Features and Biodiversity focussed on ways to encourage greater maintenance, restoration and creation of landscape features to meet the Biodiversity Strategy target through farmer buy-in.

The Thematic Group on Landscape Features and Biodiversity has networked knowledge from EU Member State representatives and stakeholders since October about how to encourage improved diversity, coverage, connectivity and condition of landscape features within the EU’s farmed environment. The group’s second meeting, which took place in December, spotlighted opportunities such as schemes which maximise diversity of landscape features and benefits for biodiversity.

Discussion covered the scope of CAP Strategic Plan (CSP) support for this topic as well as the economic benefits of landscape features and issues that need to be addressed for successful scheme design and to increase engagement and action. Another important outcome of the Thematic Group was that it pinpointed enabling factors for the design of successful measures to stimulate the management, restoration and creation of landscape features to enhance biodiversity and deliver ecosystem services.

You can learn more about the role of CSP support for landscape features and biodiversity on the event’s webpage, which also hosts the presentations.
