Delivering more accurate and available precision agriculture services

AgriBIT is a Horizon 2020 project all about increasing the precision, accuracy and continuity of precision agriculture services available to farmers.

The AgriBIT services being developed will foster sustainability and efficiency because they enable farmers to optimise resources such as fertilisers, pesticides or water. They also facilitate the cultivation of a diversity of crops across smaller areas of land and make it easier to use technologies in challenging conditions such as high cloud coverage.

In order to do this, the project is making use of the added value of combining Global Navigation Satellites Systems (GNSS) and Earth Observation (EO) information with on-field and on-machine sensors and actuators, and expert agricultural knowledge to deliver high precision and continuously available services.

AgriBIT will deliver a range of customisable and modular solutions suitable for various types of agricultural uses and crops. These include: market and needs analysis, a bundle of precision agriculture services for farmers and farm advisors, an affordable EU-sourced multi-constellation receiver with centimeter accuracy to the needs of precision agriculture, and more.

Delivering more accurate and available precision agriculture services

The project is testing the technologies on 3 pilot sites:

  • Peach orchards (Greece): Full management of peach orchards, benefiting from the capability to overcome the limitation of EO and Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) data which cannot provide accurate results in orchards crops due to tree canopy shape.
  • Tomatoes (Portugal): Detailed management of diseases, speeding up the detection of diseases earlier during the growth period and delivering the ability to apply corrective measures earlier than without the use of GNSS services, i.e. before the harvest.
  • Vineyards (Italy): Management of 200 ha of vineyards, with a focus on being able to improve automatic guidance, decrease water usage and connect AgriBIT services to other management platforms.

Keep an eye out for some demonstration days in July 2023.
