Objectives

Our project is aimed to result in the implementation of innovative agricultural methods into agricultural practice that will be able to increase the availability of organic seeds produced in ecological farming.

Objectives

SFS-07-2016-2017: Organic breeding - Increasing the competitiveness of the organic breeding and farming sectors

The main goal of the project is to raise awareness about the benefits of organic farming and the use of organic seeds for the ecosystem. We strive to develop effective system of crop rotation in organic farming with the use of legumes. The key element of our work is a search for varieties with high value and good properties.

Keywords: varieties for ecological farming, soybean seeds, organic farming, ecological standards, DNA analysis of varieties, QTL analysis, biomarkers.

Activities

We invite for cooperation:

- Private research institutes conducting studies in the field of biotechnology and genetics, particularly that are able to carry out DNA analysis of plants, genetic maps, QTL analysis and research of varieties with the help of biomarkers;

- Private companies conducting scientific research in a breeding process of varieties;

- Farmers and companies dealing with organic farming;

- Certification bodies and plant varieties testing organizations of UPOV system in order to improve methodics for testing of soybean varieties suitable for ecological farming.

Activities

The main area of our performance is the scientific research in the field of breeding and adaptation of soybean varieties suitable for organic farming to different climate conditions of Europe and other regions of the world.

The crucial problem of subject area is the lack of knowledge about organic farming and benefits arising from the use of organic seeds. The low level of awareness about the advantages of using organic seeds does not stimulate their production, which directly causes their high price. Therefore, 95% of organic production is based on crop varieties that have been bred for

Additional comments

The leader of consortium Hodowla Soi Agroyoumis Polska Sp. z o.o. is included in the group of companies dealing with research and development in breeding of soybean varieties with more than 25 years of experience, including selection of varieties suitable for organic farming.
