Contexte
The project request arises from the need to respond to the demands of the affected municipalities to face the depopulation process and the abandonment of forests and farmlands. On the other hand, the demand for pork meat from the Celtic trunk (Porco Celta, Gochu Asturcelta) is on the rise, and to cope with it, it is necessary to ease the technological development of the sector, by increasing production, homogenization of products, improvement of herd management and reduction of costs and work.Several of the members have participated in a national project evaluating the effect of grazing with native breeds of pigs of the Celtic trunk in Ibero-Atlantic deciduous forest, which results are expected to be corroborated in this project.The development of this mobile, autonomous and digitized system from the tested prototype, has been another of the project's incentives to evaluate the improvement of production practices.Finally, the creation by the Xunta de Galicia of the Model Villages Plan has been taken into account, where these farms could be included, with the proposed feeding system, as well as the support of the Xunta de Galicia and the Government. of the Principality of Asturias, in line with the trends of Spain Circular 2030 for R & D & i initiatives that they support rural development, increase profitability and improve the sustainability of livestock farms.
Objectives
To evaluate an automated mechanism of feeding and animal control, in Atlantic deciduous forests of oak, chestnut and other forests in a derelict regime and significant rural depopulation. Through a mobile, autonomous and digitized feeding and animal control system, it is intended to achieve cost reduction, ease of handling, recovery and maintenance of the pig Celtic trunk, improvement and homogenization of the carcasses as a product of high sensory and food quality and a sustainable use of the forest lands, the latter coupled with the prevention of forest fires. The penetration of the product in the distribution and consumption channels will also be favored
Objectives
Evaluar un mecanismo automatizado de alimentación y control animal en bosques caducifolios de roble, castaño y otras en zonas con régimen de abandono y despoblamiento. Se trata de un sistema móvil, autónomo y digitalizado, de alimentación y control animal, se pretende lograr la reducción de costes, facilidad de manejo, recuperación y mantenimiento de razas porcinas del tronco celta, mejora y homogenización de las canales como producto de alta calidad sensorial y alimentaria y un aprovechamiento sostenible de las masas forestales, unido esto último a la prevención de incendios forestales.
También se favorecerá la penetración del producto en los canales de distribución y consumo.
Activities
Installation of two autonomous and digitized pig feeding systems, with their corresponding closure. Carrying out prior and during the project of controls of the environmental and forest characteristics of the plots used, as well as the parameters of the groundwater, if applicable. Introduction of herds of 48 pigs per plot, during two fattening cycles. Analysis of productive aspects and physical, nutritional and organoleptic characteristics of the carcasses. Preparation of an economic study of the farms. Development of different outreach activities, with the participation of collaborating members and others not included. Final report and presentation meeting.

Realización previa y durante el proyecto de controles de las características ambientales de las parcelas utilizadas, así como los parámetros de las aguas subterráneas. Introducción de piaras de 48 cerdos por parcela, durante dos ciclos de engorde. Análisis de aspectos productivos y características físicas, nutricionales y organolépticas. Elaboración de un estudio económico de las explotaciones. Desarrollo de diferentes actividades de divulgación, con la participación de miembros colaboradores y otros no incluidos. Informe final y acto de presentación del mismo.

6 Practice Abstracts
A very important part of the project was the dissemination of data on the implementation of new Celtic trunk pig farms in extensive farming, using or not the automated system, so numerous informative material was prepared, as well as various dissemination events were held. In a project like this, it was essential that other professionals (farmers and researchers), knew the results obtained through this Operative Group, being able to replicate or improve the formula used by our associations. This meant that many people got to know our project and reported new ideas, as well as consultations to initiate ventures along the same lines. All the associations that were part of the Operative Group were involved in making informative material that was distributed in numerous talks, events on native breeds, schools, etc.
Una parte muy importante del proyecto era la difusión de datos sobre la implantación de nuevas explotaciones de ganado porcino del tronco celta en extensivo, empleando o no el sistema automatizado, por lo que se confeccionó numeroso material divulgativo, así como se realizaron diversos actos de difusión. En un proyecto como este, era esencial que otros profesionales (ganaderos e investigadores), conocieran los resultados que se conseguieron a través de este Grupo Operativo, pudiendo replicar o mejorar la fórmula usada por nuestras asociaciones. Esto supuso que mucha gente conociese nuestro proyecto y nos reportaran nuevas ideas, así como consultas para iniciar emprendimientos en la misma línea. Todas las asociaciones que formaban parte del Grupo Operativo, se volcaron en hacer material divulgativo que se repartió en numerosas charlas, eventos sobre razas autóctonas, colegios, etc.
In order to see that the implementation of this system in the fixation of rural population and maintenance of the social fabric has some kind of result, surveys were conducted among the municipal administrations of the territory in relation to these social results of the project. Throughout this project, satisfaction surveys were carried out on the visits to the facilities, in which it is clearly demonstrated how positively they valued this project, influencing the quality of life of the inhabitants in the areas of settlement of these projects.
Para ver que la implantación de este sistema en la fijación de población rural y mantenimiento del tejido social tiene algún tipo de resultado, se realizaron encuestas entre las administraciones municipales del territorio en relación a estos resultados sociales del proyecto. A lo largo de este proyecto se realizaron encuestas de satisfacción de las visitas a las instalaciones, en las que claramente queda demostrado como valoraron positivamente este proyecto, influyendo en la calidad de vida de los habitantes en las zonas de asentamiento de estos proyectos.
For the survival of the two breeds it is absolutely necessary to demonstrate to the producers that they are economically viable, as well as to show that the investment in an autonomous system, besides having benefits for the quality of life of the farmer, is also economically sustainable. For this purpose, an economic-financial model is developed during the project by the University of Oviedo, which makes a detailed analysis of the costs and income of this activity, clearly demonstrating that it is profitable. This study makes it clear that it is an operating model that requires a large investment, so a longer amortization period is needed, but that over the years it is fully profitable as a business.
Para la superviviencia de las dos razas es totalmente necesario demostrar a los productores que son viables económicamente, así como hacer ver que la inversión en un sistema autónomo además de tener beneficios para la calidad de vida del ganadero, también es económicamente sostenible. Para este fin se desarrolla durante el proyecto un modelo económico-financiero por la Unviersidad de Oviedo, en la que se hace un análisis minucioso de los costes e ingresos de esta actividad, demostrando claramente que es rentable. En este estudio se deja claro que es un modelo de explotación que requiere una gran inversión, por lo que se necesita un período más largo de amortización, pero que con los años es plenamente rentable como negocio.
One of the major problems of the “Porco Celta” and “Gochu asturcelta” breed products is their lack of inclusion in the market, as well as their low valuation by the final consumer. This is a work that, although there was already some progress, was a struggle for a long time of producers and associations that defend these products. Throughout this project, a commercial impact study was carried out, as well as numerous conversations with various food chains such as “AliMerka”. This commercial study shows that there is room in the market for these products, which can clearly compete with other similar products, since it has been demonstrated that they improve their characteristics. On the part of the association “Asoporcel”, a distinctive seal was created to mark its products as “Porco Celta native breed”.
Una de las grandes problemáticas que tienen los productos de raza "Porco Celta" y "Gochu asturcelta", es su poca inclusión en el mercado, así como su poca valoración por parte del consumidor final. Este es un trabajo que, aunque ya hubo algún avance, fue una lucha durante mucho tiempo de los productores y asociaciones que defienden estos productos. A lo largo de este proyecto se realizó un estudio de impacto comercial, así como numerosas conversaciones con diversas cadenas alimentarias como "AliMerka". En este estudio comercial se deja demostrado que en el mercado hay espacio para estos productos, pudiendo competir claramente con otros similares características, ya que queda demostrado que mejoran sus características. Por la parte de la asociación "Asoporcel" se crea un sello distintivo que marca sus productos "Raza autóctona Porco Celta".
In relation to the quality of the meat of “Porco Celta” and “Gochu Asturcelta” breed animals, numerous studies were carried out through intramuscular fat and blood studies. These studies showed that the meat of these animals has many benefits, such as being rich in unsaturated fatty acids or oleic acids. Tastings of these products were held to make them known to the general public, in addition to meetings with other researchers to compare the results of these animals with other breeds. In this project, numerous sanitary controls were carried out, implementing the existing ones, to achieve and ensure a high sanitary guarantee and traceability in these animals. All this helped to have a quality final product in relation to its color, flavor and nutritional quality.
En relación a la calidad de la carne de los animales de raza "Porco Celta" y "Gochu Asturcelta", se realizaron numerosos estudios a través de estudios de grasa intramuscular y sangre. Estos estudios evidenciaron que la carne de estos animales tiene muchos benificios, como por ejemplo que es rica en ácidos grasos insaturados o de ácidos oleicos. Se realizaron catas de estos productos para dar a conocerlos a la población en general, además de hacer encuentros con otros investigadores para comparar los resultados de estos animales con otras razas. En este proyecto se llevaron a cabo numerosos controles sanitarios, implementando los existentes, para conseguir y asegurar una alta garantía sanitaria y de trazabilidad en estes animales. Todo esto ayudó a tener un producto final de calidad en relación a su color, sabor y nutricionalmente de calidad.
The installation of a totally innovative self-feeding system for “Porco Celta” and “Gochu asturcelta” animals was carried out, which makes the cattle work much simpler and the operation totally autonomous. The facilities have solar panels that make the farm self-sufficient, with numerous security systems that facilitate its control. The expectations of this result were fully met, achieving a fully functional and autonomous installation, making it possible to remotely control the facilities. Likewise, numerous animal weighings were carried out to obtain data on the breeds, through follow-up visits to the facilities. Numerous reports and audiovisual documentation were prepared for the recording of these data. With all this, several reports on the soil, the development of the pigs and the quality of their meat could be made.
Se llevó a cabo la instalación de un sistema de autoalimentación totalmente innovador para animales de raza "Porco Celta" y "Gochu asturcelta", que hace el trabajo ganadero mucho más sencillo y el funcionamiento totalmente autónomo. Las instalaciones cuentan con placas solares que hacen autosuficiente la explotación, contando con numerosos sistemas de seguridad que facilitan su control. Las expectativas de este resultado fueron totalmente cumplidas, consiguiendo una instalación totalmente funcional y autónoma, haciendo posible un control remoto de las instalaciones. Así mismo, se realizaron numerosos pesajes de animales para obtener datos de las razas, a través de visitas de seguimiento de las instalaciones. Se elaboraron numerosos informes y documentación audiovisuales para la grabación de estos datos. Con todo esto se pudieron realizar diversos informes sobre el suelo, el desarrollo de los cerdos y la calidad de su carne.
