Objectives
In order to guarantee optimum quality and food safety of the end product, raw milk must be of excellent quality. Determining the coli rate helps to identify raw milk that may have been exposed to insufficient hygienic conditions. Research shows that the results for the coli rate are worse on farms with an automatic milking system (AMS). As a result, these farms are deprived of significant income due to the loss of premiums. The aim of the OG is to tackle and solve the problem in a structural way so that the milk quality of all AMS farms improves, causing less loss of income as a result.
Objectives
Activities
In the project, 16 dairy farms with an AMS will be monitored and supervised by advisors from MCC, experts from ILVO and milking machine technicians from Fedagrim. They will be selected on the basis of type of AMS (brand) and quality results, with a 50/50 split for good and bad quality results spread across the different manufacturers. The experts look for possible causes of the differences in coli rates. A sampling plan with associated new analysis techniques is developed with the aim of detecting coli infections faster and more efficiently. A checklist will be developed for AMS users to remedy the coli infections.
Activities
