Context

The proposal seeks to provide a new market outlet for local types of wood in Catalonia with special and unique characteristics due to their beauty (often perceived as imperfections or defects, due to the presence of knots, large diameters, holes, rot and colouration, taper and curvatures, cankers and warts, etc.). Thus, in this context, the current destination of this wood does not generate any kind of productive economy for forestry (no or low price). That is why this innovative project offers an alternative for these woods, firstly, giving them the visibility they deserve and ‘dignifying’ them, and secondly, orienting them towards a ‘specialised’ market and retailers who value the uniqueness of wood just as it is, with its defects and imperfections as a source of beauty and differentiation, turning them into ‘unique pieces’ where the end customer is willing to pay the added value for the uniqueness of the raw material and its processing and final transformation. This added value will improve the forestry economics and orient forestry towards participation in a market that seeks product diversity and values proximity and short distribution circuits. The development of the project is based on the innovative process in the value chain from purchase, preparation (minimum pretreatment - sawing in the form of boules, avoiding the standard sizes already offered on the market) and drying, to marketing (with new formulas to connect supply and demand and sales channels) for this type of wood with special characteristics

Objectives

-Recover the value of wood with special sizes and characteristics through innovation in product, in process (by transforming it) and in marketing techniques.
-Introduce a product differentiated from the wood formats cut to standard sizes in larges stores and thereby offer a quality product.
-Create a work context focused on a specific market that seeks materials that are unique, due to their beauty, size or technological characteristics, and which makes these woods unique ‘pieces’ to be worked and transformed by cabinetmakers, interior designers, decorators, architects and designers.
-Improve the competitiveness of forestry production groups.

Objectives

-Valorar maderas de dimensiones y características especiales a través de la innovación en producto, en proceso para transformarlo y en técnicas de comercialización.

-Introducir un producto de calidad, diferenciado de los formatos de maderas serradas a las dimensiones estándares de los grandes almacenes.

-Crear un marco de trabajo enfocado a un mercado específico que busca piezas singulares, ya sea por su belleza, dimensiones o características tecnológicas y que hacen de estas maderas, "piezas" únicas para ser trabajadas y transformadas por carpinteros, interioristas, decoradores, arquitectos y diseñadores.

-Mejorar la competitividad de las agrupaciones de productores forestales.

-Agreement on the organisation and operation of the operational group
-Development of the innovative organisational model
-Project dissemination and communication strategy and plan: dissemination and communication of project results, recruitment of raw material suppliers and potential customers, through the creation of a web platform, design and preparation of leaflets/brochures on the project and advertising the project in trade journals.
-Pre-industrial test to analyse product characteristics and storage conditions.

-Estrategia y Plan de difusión y comunicación del proyecto: divulgación y la comunicación de los resultados del proyecto, captación de proveedores de materia prima y de clientes potenciales, mediante la creación de una plataforma web, diseño y elaboración de trípticos / dípticos sobre el proyecto así como publicidad del proyecto en un anuncio de revista sectorial.

-Prueba Pre-Industrial para el análisis de las características del producto y las condiciones de almacenamiento.
