Objectives
The aim of the project presented was to develop a process for obtaining Leghaemoglobin from the yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae, given that mass production from its original source, infected soybean root nodules, is not feasible. The study of the industrial viability of this process and assessment of the use of the protein for the improvement of vegetable preparations intended for human consumption has also been considered.
Activities
• Activity 1. Redesign and synthesis of the sequence to be expressed in order to optimise its production.
• Activity 2. Development of vectors that allow its expression and secretion in the culture medium.
• Activity 3. Detection and elimination of production bottlenecks at laboratory scale, redesigning strains if necessary.
• Activity 4. Production trials in 5 L scale bioreactors in a pilot plant and design of protein purification processes.
• Activity 5. Tests on the addition of the protein to the final products and assessment of the characteristics conferred.
• Activity 7. Dissemination of the project by all project participants.
