Forest edge as a support to the preservation of species diversity in forests, providing ecosystem services

Objectives
The owners of the forest edges often lack the knowledge about the preservation of the forest edge, however, if we could raise awareness about the importance of the forest edges, we could also increase the productivity of these often-neglected areas.
Objective:
-to show the importance of the forest edge as a support to the biodiversity
-to preserve the ecological, economic, social and aesthetic functions of the forest edge,
-to raise awareness among the owners of the forest edge of the forest edge,
-to cultivate, maintain the forest edges.
Objectives
Glavni cilj projekta je povečanje in ohranjanje biodiverzitete v tem gozdnem življenjskem prostoru ter izdelati smernice za gospodarjenje, vzpostavitev, sanacijo, oblikovanja, vzdrževanje gozdnega roba, z upoštevanjem ekološke, gospodarske, socialne in estetske funkcije.
Pomembno mesto v projektu je namenjeno ozaveščanju in strokovni podpori tako laični kot strokovni javnosti. Tu so v ospredju lokalno prebivalstvo in KG ter mladi, ki se izobražujejo v srednješolskih in visokošolskih kmetijskih programih, študentje s področij okoljskega načrtovanja, biologi, idr.
Activities
Slovenian diverse cultural landscapes are nowadays facing two opposing processes intensification of agriculture and abandonment of agricultural uses, which are both affecting different functions of the forest edge; ecological functions (forest edge as habitat for plants, mammals, birds, invertebrates, ...), economic functions, social functions (sports, learning, tourism) and aesthetic functions. The owners of the forest edges often lack the knowledge about the preservation of the forest edge, however, if we could raise awareness about the importance of the forest edges, we could also increase the productivity of these often-neglected areas.
Activities
Tematika predlaganega projekta se nanaša na ohranjanje biotske raznovrstnosti v gozdnih habitatih oz. natančneje, v tistem delu gozdnega ekosistema, ki ga lahko definiramo kot gozdni rob. Pri sonaravnem usmerjanju nege gozda predstavlja gozdni rob naravno prvino, krajinski element, ki je po rastlinski in živalski sestavi najbolj pester del gozdnega ekosistema, z največjo gostoto rastlin in živali. Pri negi gozdnega roba so pomembne ekološke (gozdni rob kot habitat za številne organizme rastlin, sesalcev, ptic, nevretenčarjev, …), gospodarske (prodaja gozdnih plodov/sadežev, lov, gozdarstvo), socialne (rekreacija, nabiralništvo, izkustveno učenje, turizem) in estetske funkcije.
