Objectives

The main aim of FIGARO Plan is to develop irrigation practices and rational fertirrigation of crops based on the use of DSS, advanced-proximal sensors both in open field and in protected crops. This will allow the optimization of the use of important resources such as water and fertilizers with undoubted advantages on crop productivity, on the reduction of pollutant releases and on the better adaptation of agricultural systems to climate change.

Activities

The planned activities included in the plan in order to achieve the objectives and the expected results concern the collection of data and physiological information from field trials to provide the DSS with all the information necessary for the preparation of the fertirrigation advice; the efficacy tests with low impact formulations for the containment of Phytium and the assessment of the adaptation to climate change of companies using modern and innovative fertirrigation and rational irrigation techniques

2 Practice Abstracts

The work carried out within the FIGARO Plan has resulted in the development of more efficient and rational automated irrigation and fertigation practices of the horticultural and fruit crops under study, based on the use of DSS, advanced technologies in both open field and protected crops. This made it possible to optimize the use of important inputs such as water and fertilizers to be distributed, improve productivity, reduce pollutant releases, and facilitate adaptation of agricultural systems to climate change. This was accomplished through several actions: defined uptake curves for nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium for vegetable and fruit crops, and created a management database. A software calculates annual nutrient requirements and provides accurate directions for fertigation, and integration of the GIAS platform with Irrinet/Irriframe has optimized irrigation practice. The innovative Fert-Irrinet approach, demonstrated higher nitrogen use efficiency and higher profit margin with the use of DSS. Integration of advanced fertigation and automation systems for control units, improved irrigation and fertigation efficiency and accuracy. Evaluated low-impact formulations in the containment of Phytium spp.on zucchini crops. Realized the study of climate change adaptation of agricultural systems making use of modern technologies. Carried out nr. 9 implementation initiatives.
