Cybernetics in dairy cow feed optimization

Objectives
Optimized feeding of dairy cows has important role in both supporting cow health and cost-efficient milk production. Currently used standard operation practices in dairy cow farms have delay in optimization process of nutritional values of the feed and lack tools for quick balancing. This project aims for using cybernetics as a tool for automatic feed recipe optimization, based on input parameters like quality of feed as well as milk production or cow health related parameters. The system for mixed feed production is tested with two participating dairy cow farmers in practice. Effects of the system on cost-efficiency of the farm and cow health are monitored and analyzed during the project.
Objectives
Lehmien tasapainoinen ruokinta on perusta hyvin toimivalle maitotilalle. Nykyisin käytössä olevat toimintatavat ruokinnan optimoimiselle eivät tarjoa työkaluja nopeaan reagointiin tai ongelmien ennaltaehkäisyyn. Digiloikka lehmän ruokintaan -hankkeessa hyödynnetään kybernetiikkaa ja ratkaistaan pilottitilojen kanssa kustannustehokkaan suomalaiselle maitotilalle rakennettavan automatisoidun seosrehuruokinnan kompastuskiviä. Hankkeessa seurataan mitä mitattavaa hyötyä kybernetiikkaan perustuva automatisointi tuo maatilan taloudelle tai nautojen hyvinvoinnille
Activities
Project consists of selecting suitable sensors and methods for measuring feed quality, cow heath indicators, milk production and creating a feedback loop for optimal feed mixing based on this input information. The system is based on digital feeding assistant program and enterprise resource planning (ERP) solution that will combine information from different sources and as output coordinate the feed recipe optimization. The system will be tested with two dairy cow farms and benefits of the system for farm economy and animal heath will be analyzed and evaluated.
Activities
Hankkeessa pyritään löytämään arjessa käyttökelpoiset anturit ja menetelmät seosrehun koostumuksen lähes reaaliaikaisen analyysiin tiloilla sekä menetelmät nautojen terveyden tilan mittaamiseen, jonka pohjalta ruokintaa säädetään. Hankkeessa myös luodaan suomalaiselle nautatilalle optimoitu ohjelmapohja, joka kerää arvot eri analyysimenetelmistä, korreloi arvoja ja pystyy tarvittaessa säätämään seosrehun reseptiä tilan automaattisessa seosrehuruokinnassa tulosten perusteella. Hankkeen aikana kokonaisuus pilotoidaan hankkeeseen osallistuvilla kahdella maidontuottajatilalla ja arvioidaan järjestelmän vaikutusta yritysten talouteen.
