Today the market rewards the cereal landraces spread in specific territories.
The genetic characterization of the so-called ancient grains is of fundamental importance for their enhancement, not only aimed at certification but also to verify the presence of genes of technological or health interest, to be used in specific enhancement programs of these cultivars.
However, it is necessary to make the related supply chain solid in terms of guarantees to be offered to the consumer on the real genetic identity of the materials, starting from the seeds to the transformed. For this reason, the project aims to implement a system of guarantees (CIRCE SYSTEM), which are able to certify the genetic identity and the technical profile of the raw materials obtained from the so-called ancient grains of the Madonie.
The technology adopted to certify genetic identity of landraces is SNP Array.

Oggi il mercato premia le landraces di cereali diffuse in specifici territori.
La caratterizzazione genetica dei cosiddetti grani antichi è di fondamentale importanza per la loro valorizzazione, non soltanto finalizzata alla certificazione ma anche per verificare la presenza di geni di interesse tecnologico o salutistico, da impiegare in specifici programmi di valorizzazione di queste cultivar.
È necessario però rendere solida la relativa filiera in termini di garanzie da offrire al consumatore sulla reale identità genetica dei materiali, a partire dalle sementi fino al trasformato. Per tale motivo il progetto punta ad implementare un sistema di garanzie (SISTEMA CIRCE), che riescano a certificare l’identità genetica ed il profilo tecnico delle materie prime ottenute dai cosiddetti grani antichi delle Madonie.
