Objectives
In a conventional poultry farm, the first 10 days after the arrival of chicks on the farm are critical to the health of the batch. Early detection of warning signs at this stage is crucial to prevent mortality. Using the data of 700 batches of chicks on 40 poultry farms for one and a half years, the OMAP project performed a statistical analysis of indicators for poultry mortality in the first 10 days. These data were used to create a mobile app to help to detect problems in the batches and make the correct decisions regarding, for instance, the use of antibiotics and other treatments.

Additional comments
A mobile app is being developed to use the results of the OMAP project to forecast mortality between day 3 and 10 of the batch. Farmers feed data into the app which then gives them a prediction on the mortality rates of the batch. These data are gathered during the two first days of the batch and they include data on the breeder, production organisation, season, age of the breeding animals, the hatchery of origin, and more. This prediction will help veterinarians to make an initial diagnosis and better target treatments. This will help to reduce antibiotic use and other inputs.
