    Summary

Fagersta Södra IK (Fagersta Södra Sport Club), is the largest sports association in the Fagersta municipality. It offers a variety of sports including football, skiing and chess. Between 2012-2015 many asylum seekers arrived in Fagersta. The association decided to offer young immigrants the opportunity to participate in sporting activities in order to help them feel part of the local community.

The increased number of members meant that the club required more facilities. RDP support was used to upgrade the club through the creation of two new dressing rooms, a new laundry room, a service house and disabled-accessible toilets. The clubhouse, kitchen and the kiosk were also renovated.

    Results

The number of youth teams increased from nine to 11.

The number of young people in the association from other countries increased from 50 to 100.

The number of team leaders from other countries increased from one to four.

The number of gatherings (meetings, education, conferences, training camps and school activities) hosted in the association’s new facilities increased from four to 12 per year.
