Smart Villages: 'Reciprocity contracts'

This case study explores ‘reciprocity contracts’ between cities and their surrounding countryside in four pilot areas in France.

It overviews how local government officials and residents from both types of area come together to negotiate win-win partnerships and joint activities in areas of common concern such as employment, the environment and local services. The study considers the governance and funding implications of such partnerships.
