Research needs from practice 2025

This report follows the previous 'Research needs from practice' report published in July 2025, which covered 96 research needs from practice. It was prepared by the Support Facility for Innovation & Knowledge Exchange | EIP-AGRI.

The report presents 70 research needs from practice as the outcome of three EU CAP Network Focus Groups (FG), three workshops, and two seminars that took place between November 2024 and June 2025, including the three Focus Groups on 'Alternative solutions for livestock product differentiation', 'Production of protein crops under climate change' and 'Local perennial plant genetic resources in view of climate change and biodiversity loss'. It also includes EU CAP Network workshops on the 'National networking for innovation and knowledge exchange', 'Circular bioeconomy - valorisation of forest by-products', and 'Innovation in logistics to improve the position of farmers in a supply chain', as well as the EU CAP Network seminar 'Robotics and Artificial Intelligence in farming and forestry'.

This report makes the research needs from practice accessible to researchers and practitioners, enabling them to review and steer their work towards providing solutions. It also provides the opportunity to initiate innovative projects with other partners to address these challenges.

These research needs from practice are also available to national and regional policymakers and authorities, who can incorporate specific topics into their calls for innovative projects. In addition, this information feeds into the programming of the EU research and innovation programmes.
