Objectives

The active substance diquat has been prohibited for use in Europe since November 2019. As a result, haulmicide will look completely different from 2020, because diquat was the only active ingredient that caused rapid haulm death. The seed potato growers want to use this OG to investigate which alternative spray schemes, whether or not in combination with mechanical haulm killing techniques, work best for rapid haulm killing, taking into account the quality of the seed potatoes, the desired size grading and economic profitability. The alternative methods are of great importance for practice, because correct haulm killing is essential for good quality seed potatoes.

Objectives

De actieve stof diquat mag in Europa niet meer gebruikt worden sinds november 2019. De loofdoding ziet er vanaf 2020 dan ook helemaal anders uit omdat diquat de enige actieve stof was die zorgde voor een snelle loofdoding. De pootgoedtelers willen via deze OG onderzoeken welke alternatieve spuitschema’s, al dan niet in combinatie met mechanische loofdodingstechnieken, het best werken voor een snelle loofdoding met oog voor kwaliteit van het pootgoed, de gewenste maatsortering en economische rendabiliteit. De waarde van de alternatieve methoden is groot voor de praktijk, omdat een correcte loofdoding van belang is voor een goede kwaliteit pootgoed. 

Activities

In order to arrive at the best practice for rapid haulm killing without diquat, the OG will first examine the existing knowledge and experiences. In consultation with the sector, different scenarios for haulm killing will then be selected for which a pilot protocol will be drawn up. In addition, a number of practical plots of land cultivated by growers in the OG will be followed up. 
After the first year, the pros and cons of the scenarios will be compared. This mid-term review will form the basis for the second year's tests. Dissemination of the results and demonstrations of the (mechanical) haulm killing strategies are an important activity of this OG.

Activities

Om tot de beste praktijk voor een snelle loofdoding zonder diquat te komen, wordt eerst nagegaan welke kennis en ervaringen al aanwezig zijn in de praktijk. In overleg met de sector worden dan verschillende scenario's voor loofdoding geselecteerd waarvoor een proefprotocol opgesteld wordt. Daarnaast zullen enkele praktijkpercelen van telers in de OG opgevolgd worden. 
Na het eerste jaar zullen de voor- en nadelen van de scenario’s tegenover elkaar afgetoetst worden. Deze tussentijdse evaluatie vormt de basis voor de proeven van het tweede jaar. Verspreiding van de resultaten en demonstraties van de (mechanische) loofdodingsstrategieën vormen een belangrijke activiteit van deze OG.
