Contexte
Gedurende de teelt van broccoli kan er sprake zijn van kwaliteitsverlies, uitval en in het ergste geval vernietiging van gehele partijen. Dit kan leiden tot behoorlijke voedselverspilling en financiële tegenvallers voor de broccolitelers. Dit wordt veroorzaakt door extreme weersomstandigheden (overvloedige regenval of droogte, wind of storm), ziektes als schermrot en alternaria, plagen als de koolgalmug, maar ook door bodembederf.

Broccolitelers werken aan de ontwikkeling van een robuust en economisch rendabel teelsysteem om te voldoen aan de eisen die in 2030 worden gesteld door de Farm-to-Fork strategie met als doelen een verduurzaamde en concurrerende veerkrachtige landbouw
Activities
Within the project, a new, integrated cultivation method for broccoli cultivation is being developed, focusing on:
1. Management of production risks: Reducing reliance on chemical plant protection products and fertilizers, despite risks from extreme weather conditions, pests and diseases.
2. Climate Adaptation: Development of weather-resistant broccoli crops with less need for chemical inputs.
3. Soil quality and biodiversity: Collaboration with bulb and potato growers to reduce crop rotation problems and structurally improve soil.
4. Nitrogen and carbon fixation: Increase nitrogen storage and carbon fixation in soil for sustainable cultivation.
Activities
Binnen t project wordt gewerkt aan een nieuwe, geïntegreerde teeltmethode voor broccoliteelt:
1. Beheer van productierisico’s: Verminderen van de afhankelijkheid van chemische gewasbeschermingsmiddelen en kunstmest, ondanks risico’s van extreme weersomstandigheden, plagen en ziektes.
2. Klimaatadaptatie: Ontwikkeling van weersbestendige broccoliteelt met minder behoefte aan chemische middelen.
3. Bodemkwaliteit en biodiversiteit: Samenwerking met bloembollen- en aardappeltelers om vruchtwisselingsproblemen te verminderen en de bodem structureel te verbeteren.
4. Stikstof- en koolstofbinding: Verhogen van stikstofopslag en koolstofbinding in de bodem voor duurzame teelt.
