Objectives
Poultry houses are usually heated with gas heaters, heat exchangers (also on gas) or fueled by biomass. At this point, the entire house must be heated when the day-old chicks enter it. This takes a lot of energy. Because the chicks need a lot of heat when they are young, it is more efficient to heat a limited part of the house. In the barn itself, the environment is usually not very challenging for the animals. One single-storey barn without different zones. When chickens are unable to perform natural behaviors, it can lead to stress and frustration or boredom. This is a risk to animal welfare.
Objectives
Pluimveestallen worden doorgaans verwarmd met gas-heaters, warmte wisselaars (ook op gas) of gestookt op biomassa. Op dit moment moet de volledige stal verwarmd worden als de eendagskuikens erin komen. Dit kost veel energie. Omdat de kuikens juist als ze jong zijn veel warmte nodig hebben, is het efficiënter om een beperkt gedeelte van de stal te verwarmen. In de stal zelf is de omgeving meestal weinig uitdagend voor de dieren. Één gelijkvloerse stal zonder verschillende zones. Als kippen natuurlijke gedragingen niet kunnen uitvoeren, kan dit leiden tot stress en frustratie, of juist verveling. Dit is een risico voor dierenwelzijn.
Activities
In the project a new heating and welfare system for broilers is being designed and tested in practice, it is investigated which benefits in terms of energy use and animal welfare this system provides. The aim is to heat a house without fossil fuels, and to significantly improve the welfare of the broilers by better facilitating the performance of natural behavior. Infrared panels and living platforms are hung on the roof of the barn. The infrared panels will provide the chicks with heat in the first days / weeks. Activities
In het project wordt een nieuw verwarmings- en welzijnsysteem voor vleeskuikens ontworpen en getest in de praktijk onderzocht wordt welke voordelen op het gebied van energiegebruik en dierenwelzijn dit systeem oplevert. Het doel is om een stal te verwarmen zonder fossiele brandstoffen, en om het welzijn van de vleeskuikens aanzienlijk te verbeteren door het uitvoeren van natuurlijk gedrag beter te faciliteren. Aan het dak van de stal worden infraroodpanelen en leef plateaus opgehangen. De infraroodpanelen zullen de kuikens in de eerste dagen/weken van warmte voorzien. Als de kuikens na een aantal dagen hebben geleerd waar de warme en koudere gedeeltes van de stal zijn...
Context
Het resultaat van dit project is dat de Nederlandse landbouw nog meer onderscheidend is gemaakt. Er wordt gezorgd voor een betere leefomgeving van mens en dier, waarop een duurzame, fossielvrije en energie neutrale wijze stralingswarmte een gedeelte van de stal verwarmt (i.p.v. de totale stal). Het beoogde systeem is een nog niet bestaand innovatief systeem, waarbij de stal ingedeeld wordt in verschillende functionele leef zones, zodat dier en milieu optimaal tot hun recht komen.
