Objectives

After the cultivation of (late) potatoes it is difficult to achieve a sufficiently low nitrate residue. An important cause is the relatively shallow and weakly developed root system of potatoes. By placing the nitrogen fertilisation close to the seed potato, where the roots are formed, the efficiency of nitrogen use will improve. As a result, the same yield and lower nitrate residue can be achieved with a lower dose of fertilizer. However, this innovative fertilisation technique requires a modified mechanisation.

Objectives

Na de teelt van (late) aardappelen is het moeilijk om een voldoende laag nitraatresidu te behalen. Een belangrijke oorzaak is het relatief ondiepe, zwak ontwikkelde wortelstelsel van aardappelen. Door de stikstofbemesting dicht bij de poter te plaatsen, daar waar de wortels gevormd worden, zal de stikstofgebruiksefficiëntie verbeteren. Hierdoor kunnen eenzelfde opbrengst en een lager nitraatresidu behaald worden met een lagere bemestingsdosis. Deze innovatieve bemestingstechniek vraagt echter een aangepaste mechanisatie waardoor aardappeltelers er niet zomaar op kunnen overschakelen.

Activities

Although contractors, machine constructors and their dealers are gradually trying to respond to this new evolution with adapted mechanisation, there are still many practical questions for them as well as for the farmers. This operational group wants to answer the practical questions of all actors within the sector by gathering extra knowledge on practical fields where row fertilisation is applied. In addition, it wants to bring potato growers into contact with the appropriate actors who can help them to get started with row fertilisation.

Activities

Hoewel loonwerkers, machineconstructeurs en hun dealers langzamerhand trachten in te spelen op deze nieuwe evolutie met een aangepaste mechanisatie, zijn er nog veel praktische vragen voor hen alsook voor de telers. Deze operationele groep wil de praktische vragen van alle actoren binnen de sector helpen beantwoorden door extra kennis te verzamelen op praktijkpercelen waar rijenbemesting toegepast wordt. Daarnaast wil ze de aardappeltelers in contact brengen met de geschikte actoren die hen kunnen op weg helpen om aan de slag te gaan met rijenbemesting.
