Objectives

The main objective of this project is the recycling of the residual water of the olive fruit dressing industry in the irrigation of olive orchards in the semiarid zone where the tree are cropped following a kind of dry drainage system. The soil water content could be kept at high values increasing the matric component of soil water potential during a larger period, and the excess of salts could be leached by the fall and winter rainfall. An automatic irrigation system will control the whole operation. 

Objectives

El objetivo del Proyecto es aprovechar el agua residual de la industria de aderezo de la aceituna de mesa en el riego auxiliar del olivar en la campiña sur sevillana. Se espera mantener una humedad del suelo elevada, y con ella el potencial del agua, y que las lluvias de otoño a invierno lixivien el exceso de sales del suelo. Un sistema de control automático del riego regulará el funcionamiento del sistema.

Activities

1. Selection of the experimental plots according to soil type, olive cropping system and proximity to the residual water reservoir.
2. Installation of the water deposit and irrigation system. Installation of soil sensors.
3. Periodic measurements at the plots, control of the installation,  and compilation of the information.
4. Elaboration of the final report.

1. Selección de las parcelas experimentales en función del tipo de suelo y características del cultivo, así como de la proximidad a la balsa de aguas residuales.
2. Instalación del depósito de agua y del sistema de riego en las parcelas. Instalación de los sensores de suelo.
3. Lectura periódica de los datos, control de la instalación y elaboración secuencial de los datos.
4. Preparación del informe final.

1 Practice Abstracts

Expected results:
The execution of the project will allow the olive sector to benefit from the knowledge and resulting techniques for the use of saline waters from the industry of table olive dressing for drip irrigation of olive groves, currently in rainfed, increasing their productivity and reducing the environmental risks associated with the storage of large quantities of industrial wastewater, thus contributing to the objectives of the AEI to boost productivity in the agricultural sector and the sustainable management of resources.

Resultados esperados:
La ejecución del proyecto permitirá que el sector del olivar se beneficie de los conocimientos y técnicas resultantes para el aprovechamiento de las aguas salinas procedentes de la industria del aderezo de aceituna de mesa para el riego por goteo de olivares, actualmente en secano, incrementando su productividad y reduciendo los riesgos ambientales asociados al almacenamiento de grandes cantidades de aguas residuales industriales, contribuyendo así a los objetivos de la AEI de potenciar la productividad en el sector agrario y la gestión sostenible de los recursos.
