The survival of meadow orchards is threatened by increasing periods of heat and drought as a result of climate change. In contrast to the apple, the pear is much better adapted to this and could contribute to the preservation of these areas. However, large-scale utilisation of meadow orchard pears for juice production is currently not possible, as pears are sensitive to pressure and spoil quickly.

Den Fortbestand von Streuobstwiesen bedrohen zunehmende Hitze- und Trockenperioden in Folge des Klimawandels. Im Gegensatz zum Apfel ist die Birne hieran viel besser angepasst und könnte dazu beitragen, diese Flächen zu erhalten. Eine Verwertung von Streuobstbirnen durch die Verarbeitung zu Saft ist im größeren Maßstab aktuell jedoch nicht möglich, denn Birnen sind druckempfindlich und verderben schnell.
