Objectives

There is no up-to-date, robust data on performance, functional characteristics, animal welfare indicators and product quality characteristics for poultry.
Thus, Sachsenhuhn and Deutscher Zwerg-Langschan as endangered breeds are to be tested in breeding and laying period under extensive free-range farming in order to evaluate their growth, performance, and egg quality in comparison with high-performance hybrid hens.

Objectives

Für Rassegeflügel existieren keine aktuellen, belastbaren Daten zu Leistungs-, funktionalen Merkmalen sowie Tierwohlindikatoren und Eigenschaften der Produktqualität.
Sachsenhuhn und Deutscher Zwerg-Langschan als gefährdete Rassen sollen daher in Aufzucht und Legeperiode unter extensiver Freilandhaltung geprüft werden, um deren Wachstums-, Schlacht- und Legeleistung sowie deren Eiqualität im Vergleich mit Hochleistungshybridhennen zu evaluieren.

Activities

With the planned optimization of an existing, animal-independent, software for breeding groups (APIIS), among other things, the data already collected today is to be used and evaluated more effectively.

1 Practice Abstracts

The successful completion of the project is a major milestone for the breeding community. For the first time, valid data on performance, animal welfare indicators, and product quality are available for both chicken breeds. With the help of the optimized software, a freely available tool for the digital documentation of herd book data is now available.

Der erfolgreiche Abschluss des Projektes ist für die züchterische Basis ein wesentlicher Meilenstein. Erstmals liegen valide Daten zu Leistungsvermögen, Tierwohlindikatoren und Produktqualität für die beiden Hühnerrassen vor. Mit Hilfe der optimierten Software besteht nun ein frei verfügbares Instrument zur digitalen Dokumentation von Zuchtbuchdaten.
