Context

Un mayor conocimiento del comportamiento de los pastos, los recursos y el ganado, supone una ventaja competitiva para el sector. La producción de la ganadería extensiva se ha convertido en un sector vulnerable con numerosos riesgos potenciales, tanto para el sector como para el medio ambiente; desaparición de la pequeña ganadería extensiva con base territorial, aumento del riesgo de incendios y talas incontroladas, despoblamiento, baja rentabilidad, etc. 

An increase in the understanding of the behavior of pastures, natural resources and livestock would yield a competitive advantage in the sector. The extensive livestock production is a vulnerable sector due to the numerous potential risks, such as environmental factors, the reduction of the smallholding based in communal land, an increased fire risk, uncontrolled logging, rural depopulation, low cost effectiveness, etc. 

Objectives

Improving the management of both extensive livestock and mountain pastures through a Geographic Information System (GIS) tool. This GIS will combine both the monitoring of pastures with satellite remote sensing and the Global Positioning of livestock in real-time.

Mejorar el manejo de ganado extensivo y la gestión de pastos mediante una herramienta (SIG) combinando el seguimiento del estado de los pastos por teledetección y el posicionamiento del ganado.

Meeting with breeders, responsible livestock administrations and research organizations. - Contact with other groups. Exchange of experiences with other Spanish and foreign groups. - Selection of herds / test areas. - Analysis and selection of the best available devices for livestock monitoring. - Selection of satellite images to track the past. - Disclosure of the obtained results.

4 Practice Abstracts

The SIEGA Operational Group has designed and implemented a decision-support tool for managing extensive livestock farming and pasture management.
To this end, a web-based tool has been created in the form of a Geographic Information System (GIS) that combines remote sensing of pastures with livestock positioning.
The SIEGA cartographic server (http://siega.complutig.es/visor-cartografico) provides a range of information about parcels that can be useful for farmers, technicians, or managers. This information is grouped into four categories:
Biophysical Variables of Vegetation: Every five days, information is provided, both in map and statistical data formats, regarding the evolution of foliar biomass, plant nitrogen, and vegetation water content, along with the NDVI index.
Land Occupation: Data and maps of land cover are displayed in broad categories (pasture, scrub, forest, and others) along with interannual variations for each land type.
Burnt Area: Monthly and annual data is provided on the total burnt area for each parcel, as well as the burnt area by each type of land cover.
Livestock Pressure: Farmers with GPS collars can view the real-time position of their livestock on the maps. Additionally, data on weekly, monthly, and annual livestock pressure is represented for each parcel.

El Grupo Operativo SIEGA ha diseñado y puesto en marcha una herramienta de ayuda a la toma de decisiones para el manejo de la ganadería extensiva y la gestión de los pastos.
Para ello, se ha creado una herramienta web, en forma de sistema de información geográfica, que combina el seguimiento de los pastos por teledetección con el posicionamiento del ganado.

El servidor cartográfico de SIEGA (http://siega.complutig.es/visor-cartografico) ofrece una serie de información acerca de las parcelas que pueden ser útiles para el ganadero, técnico o gestor. Esta información se puede agrupar en cuatro categorías:

Variables Biofísicas de la vegetación: cada cinco días se ofrece información, tanto en mapa como en datos estadísticos, de la evolución de la Biomasa foliar, el Nitrógeno en planta y el Contenido de agua de la vegetación, además del índice NDVI.

Ocupación del suelo: se muestra datos y cartografía de la cobertura del suelo en grandes grupos (pasto, matorral, forestal y otros) y de las variaciones interanuales de cada superficie.

Área quemada: se ofrecen datos mensuales y anuales del área quemada total de cada parcela, así como del área quemada por cada tipo de cobertura del suelo.

Presión ganadera: los ganaderos que dispongan de collar GPS pueden visualizar la posición a tiempo real de su ganado sobre los mapas. Además, se representan los datos de la presión ganadera semanal, mensual y anual para cada parcela.

Another result of the project was the dissemination of the scientific innovations developed within the framework of the project. 
For this, some scientific-technical conferences were held.
To carry out the event, the BlackBoard application was used, through which you can
control the type of assistant, the permissions it has to perform actions such as speaking,
write or present. One of the functionalities of this tool is the recording of the event,

The conference had four different speakers, the first of them acted as
moderator and presenter. although this figure was already fluctuating
that entry to the event was free and was not restricted to its beginning. The type of audience varied between
researchers, whether from the CSIC, SERIDA or INIA, but also technicians from the different
farmers associations, in addition to other types of assistants. The seminars did
emphasis on the different methodologies used for the extraction of biophysical variables,
but also for the thematic extraction of information from satellite images. The
different interventions characterized the sources of error and the limitations of the methods
used to estimate them and the trend in the use of new technologies and algorithms for their
generation. Some of the results presented have already been transferred to the project, such as
the case of the use of radiative transfer models for the estimation of biophysical variables,
or the use of artificial intelligence for burned area mapping.

Otro de los resultados del proyecto fue la divulgación de las innovaciones científicas desarrolladas en el marco del proyecto. 
Para ello, se realizaron unas jornadas científico-técnicas.
Para la realización del evento, se empleó la aplicación BlackBoard, mediante la cual se puede
controlar el tipo de asistente, los permisos que tiene para realizar acciones tales como hablar,
escribir o presentar. Una de las funcionalidades de esta herramienta es la grabación del evento,

Además de este material, en el anexo se presentan diferentes capturas de pantalla del evento.
Las jornadas contaron con cuatro ponentes diferente, el primero de ellos actuaba como
moderador y presentador. unque esta cifra oscilaba ya
que la entrada al evento era libre y no se restringía a su inicio. El tipo de público variaba entre
investigadores, ya sean del CSIC, SERIDA o INIA, pero también técnicos de las diferentes
asociaciones de agricultores, además de otros tipos de asistentes. Los seminarios hicieron
hincapié en las diferentes metodologías empleadas para la extracción de variables biofísicas,
pero también para la extracción temática de información a partir de imágenes de satélite. Las
diferentes intervenciones caracterizaban las fuentes de error y las limitaciones de los métodos
empleados para estimarlas y la tendencia en el uso de nuevas tecnologías y algoritmos para su
generación. Algunos de los resultados expuestos ya han sido transferidos al proyecto, como es
el caso del uso de modelos de transferencia radiativa para la estimación de variables biofísicas,
o el uso de inteligencia artificial para la cartografía de área quemada.

To encourage the participation of different actors in the design of the tool, and in the final phase, once the tool is launched, to publicize the service and promote its use.

For this dissemination, different conferences were held, among them we can highlight the participation in the Conference organized by MAPA on the Exchange of experiences between operational groups and innovative projects on Precision Livestock. The objectives of this meeting were:

- Promote the exchange of results and experiences in precision livestock farming between innovative AEI-Agri projects financed through measure 16 of cooperation of the regional RDPs and the National Rural Development Program and projects of the European research program Horizon 2020, so that the generation of new ideas is promoted and that projects and solutions tested in one area are implemented in others.

- Publicize initiatives on precision livestock farming, beyond EAFRD financing.

- Strengthen the transfer of knowledge, promoting the creation of networks and synergies between agents who work or are interested in the same topic.

- Put in contact actors who are facing similar problems through innovation.

- Give a few touches on the National Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan and precision livestock farming

Para incentivar la participación de diferentes actores en el diseño de la herramienta, y en la fase final, una vez puesta en marcha la herramienta, para dar a conocer el servicio y potenciar su uso.
Para esta divulgación se realizaron diferentes jornadas, entre ellas se puede destacar la participación en la Jornada organizada por el MAPA sobre el Intercambio de experiencias entre grupos operativos y proyectos innovadores sobre Ganadería de precisión. Los objetivos de este encuentro fueron:
- Promover el intercambio de resultados y experiencias en ganadería de precisión entre proyectos innovadores de AEI-Agri financiados a través de la medida 16 de cooperación de los PDR autonómicos y del Programa Nacional de Desarrollo Rural y de proyectos del programa de investigación europeo Horizonte 2020, de manera que se promueva la generación de nuevas ideas y que proyectos y soluciones probados en una zona sean implantados en otras.
- Dar a conocer iniciativas sobre Ganadería de precisión, más allá de la financiación del FEADER.
- Fortalecer la transferencia de conocimientos, fomentando la creación de redes y sinergias entre agentes que trabajan o tienen interés en un mismo tema.
- Poner en contacto a actores que se están enfrentando a problemáticas similares a través de la innovación.
- Dar unas pinceladas sobre el Plan Nacional de Recuperación, Transformación y Resiliencia y la ganadería de precisión
